I have the honour to refer to my note No. 12 of 18th February, 1935, forwarding for your information copy of my despatch on the subject of the piracy of s. S. "Tung Chow", and to inform you that the owners of that vessel, Messrs. Butterfield and Swire, are now anxious

to obtain from the Chinese authorities an official

statement on the results of the measures taken to effect arrests and bring to trial any persons suspected of implication in the piracy.

The owners, further inquire whether any further witnesses from the pirated ship are likely to be required, and when the trial of Fan Ah Shui, who was arrested in this connection, is likely to be

concluded.

3.

I should be glad if you would inform me

whether such an official statement can be obtained, and for any information you may be able to give in

answer to the questions raised by the owners.
